Swedish

The Swedish Programme offers courses from beginners to advanced level and works closely with Swedish institutions and companies in Hong Kong. There is a Swedish Cultural Association, founded by Sweden enthusiasts in Hong Kong who are alumni or have studied in Sweden, which organizes fun activities and great opportunities to practice Swedish outside campus, try Swedish food, make new friends and providing networking possibilities with the Swedish community.

Sweden is a dynamic and progressive country which places great importance on equality and sustainability. The courses in the Swedish Programme combine the studies of Swedish with an understanding of Swedish culture and society, something which will be helpful in any future career.

Swedish is closely related to Danish and Norwegian and it is also an official language in Finland, so you will be able to communicate and get access to people, cultures and societies all over Scandinavia. And you will be able to read all the names in the IKEA catalogue and pronounce H&M and Kånken.

HKU has several exchange partners in Sweden and students can spend a year as an exchange student in Sweden or attend summer courses in Sweden.

The Swedish community in Hong Kong consists of around 900 people altogether and approximately 130 Swedish companies are established here including: Alfa Laval, Astra Zeneca, Atlas Copco, Electrolux, Ericsson, IKEA, Scania, SKF, Tetra Pak, Volvo and many more. Swedish design can be found in H&M, COS, Vein and many others. The Chamber of Commerce and SWEA, Swedish Women Association, are very active organizations with many activities.
